‘Sticky & Sweet Tour becomes most successful tour by a solo artist in history
Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” Tour made history as it wrapped up last night with two final shows in Tel Aviv, Israel at Yehoshua Gardens (HaYarkon Park, September 1 and 2).
The Material Girl more than lives up to her name, as her tour becomes the most successful tour ever by a solo artist. After playing 85 shows since its launch in August 2008, Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” has drawn more than 3.5 million fans in 32 countries and has grossed US$408 million, it was announced today by Live Nation, the tour’s global producer. “Sticky & Sweet” is also the second highest grossing tour of all time.
Madonna set an attendance record for the biggest crowds in history in Zurich, Switzerland, where she drew the largest audience ever assembled for a show in that country (72,000).
Her Gothenburg, Sweden show, seen by 119,000 fans, broke the record for highest grossing multiple shows in the country’s history.
In Helsinki, Finland, “Sticky & Sweet” sold more than 85,000 tickets, making it the biggest single show by an artist in history for all of Scandinavia.
Other highlights on the tour included stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina (256,000), Santiago, Chile (146,000), Sao Paulo, Brazil (203,000), Tallinn, Estonia (72,000), Warsaw, Poland (79,000), Bucharest, Romania (69,000), and Sofia, Bulgaria (54,000).
“With ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Madonna has proven yet again that there is virtually no limit to what she can accomplish both creatively and commercially,” said Arthur Fogel, Live Nation’s Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring.
“Sticky & Sweet” broke Madonna’s previous record of most successful tour by a solo artist with her 2006 Confessions Tour, which grossed US$194 million.
Madonna’s upcoming CD, “Celebration” the definitive Madonna collection – is scheduled to be released at the end of September.
***Update*** Sticky & Sweet Israel Date
Israeli newspaper Yediot Achronot is reporting today that if all goes well Madonna will perform in Israel on Tuesday 01 September (not in October as previously reported in the Israeli press) at Park Hayarkon in Tel-Aviv.
Madonna Sings Happy Birthday To Rocco!!! So sweet!

Madonna urged to stay away from Israel
More than 100 Jews and Israeli Arabs are calling on Madonna to call off her Tel Aviv concerts, scheduled for September 1 and 2.
The group has formed an organization called Boycott! Support the Palestinian BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) Call from Within, and on Sunday sent a letter to Madonna asking her not to perform at the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds.
According to Tel Aviv University Prof. Rachel Giora, a member of the group, the organization is also encouraging Israelis to boycott Madonna’s performance, “to let Israel’s government know how they feel… thereby hoping to encourage the Israeli government to reconsider its policies.”
“A performance here would imply that Israel is behaving in an acceptable manner, and would be interpreted by Israelis as moral support for the illegal and inhumane policies, described by many as war crimes and crimes against humanity,” Giora said in the letter.
The letter refers to Madonna’s study of Kabbala and her understanding of the Jewish concept of tikkun olam, or healing the world. The group suggest that “Israel’s actions don’t reflect this [tikkun olam], as Palestinian dignity and life are being trampled upon.”
Although Madonna is not Jewish, she is known for her affection for Israel and the Jewish people, and her appreciation of Kabbala. It seems unlikely that she will comply with the boycott request.

Slovenia Dumps Madonna after failing to sell 10% of the tickets for the show
Slovenia Dumps Madonna
by Music-News.com – August 9 2009
Madonna has been forced to cancel a scheduled concert in Slovenia after failing to sell 10% of the tickets for the show.
According to E!, the gig, part of her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ world tour, in the nation’s capital city of Ljubljana on August 20, has now been scrapped.
Despite organisers Live Nation citing the cancellation was due to “unforeseen logistical difficulties”, it was speculated that the show was scrapped due to low ticket sales.
Slovenian media outlets are reporting that 7,000 tickets were purchased for the 63,000-seat arena.
Laszlo Borsos, the managing director of Live Nation’s Budapest firm, said: “There is no problem with ticket sales – absolutely.”
