Railways to run 130 extra trains for Madonna
Ahead of Madonna’s first concert in Switzerland on Saturday, Swiss Federal Railways has announced it will run 130 extra trains to cater for fans.
An estimated 70,000 people are expected to travel – most by public transport – to the Dübendorf former military airfield in canton Zurich to see the 50-year-old American superstar.
The extra trains between Zurich main station and Dübendorf will come into service on the afternoon before the sold-out concert. The concert tickets include return travel by train.
After the two-hour show a non-stop service until 2am will bring fans home to the main Swiss cities.
Madonna is travelling with an entourage of 250 people, including performers and musicians, on her “Sticky & Sweet” world tour of more than 50 concerts.
Swiss Federal Railways had good practice with crowd management earlier this year during the Euro 2008 football championships, when it ran more than 4,000 extra trains.
